Power lifter Lucy Ejike shatters world record Three times As she wins Gold for Nigeria at RIO 2016 Paralympics


Nigerian power lifter, Lucy Ejike has shattered World Record by winning the gold medal of the women’s -61kg at the ongoing Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.


The 38-year-old who uses wheelchair because of the effects of polio user  is representing her country for the fifth time at the Paralympics.

She won gold medals at the 2004 and 2008 Games in Athens and Beijing and silver in London four years ago.

Ejike won the gold at RIO by lifting 136kg, increasing the country’s medal haul to five (three gold and two silver medals respectively). The closest to Ejike was Egypt’s Fatma Omar, who lifted 133kg.

Omar requested for 139kg as she aimed to overhaul the lead, but Ejike topped it and asked for 142kg. The Nigerian later lifted 142 kg, which gave her not just Paralympics Record, but a new World Record.
