Britney Spears set to perform at MTV video music awards for the first time in 9 years!

Let the countdown begin!

Britney Spears is set to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards for the first time in nine years.

The Grammy winning pop princess will belt out her latest hit,“Make Me…” when this year's show airs live from New York City's Madison Square Garden on Aug. 28.

The track is from the singer’s forthcoming record, Glory and features rapper G-Eazy, who will join Spears onstage for the first live performance of the song.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Britney without an epic announcement, so the singer got a snake on board – naturally – to help her share the exciting news on social media on Tuesday.

In the video post, a python writhes its way through a room filled with artifacts from Spears’s past VMA performances.

“The VMAs don’t give you a stage,” she says in the video. “They give you a story. Some way of taking a fraction of a second and making it live forever. Before you know it – it’s history. Before you know it… it’s Britney b*tch.”

The pop icon has collected 28 nominations and five wins at the VMAs over the years, but it’s her memorable performances that have gone down in pop culture history – from that steamy liplock with Madonna in 2006 to her classic 1999 medley of “Baby One More Time” and “Tearing Up My Heart,” with *NSYNC.

While her last VMAs performance, of her single, “Gimme More,” at the 2007 show, had its hiccups, we have no doubt Spears will slay come Aug. 28!
