A man, mistaken to be Côte d’Ivoire’s former president Laurent Gbagbo, was attacked and beaten by some angry men while walking on the streets of Paris.
As it turned out, it was a case of mistaken identity, as the man who was beaten and chased across the street was later seen to be an innocent man whose only crime was looking like the former president.
Gbogbo’s administration, which ended unceremoniously in 2011, was shrouded in allegations of fraud, murder, rape and persecution. He is currently facing trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
