Imo State-born Lauritta Onye breaks world record at Rio 2016 Paralympics as she wins Gold for Nigeria

Nigeria’s shot putter, Lauritta Onye has smashed the world record at the Rio Olympic 2016 Paralympics with her fourth round 8.40 throw.

The 32 year-old athlete dominated the event to win gold, which is Nigeria’s first Track and Field medal at the Rio Paralympics Games in Brazil.

Lauritta broke the World Record twice to make a bold statement for herself at the event. Her first throw of 7.83m outshone her World Record of 7.72m which she set at the 2015 IPC World Athletics Championship in Doha.

The Imo state- born athlete was among the athletes rewarded by President Muhammadu Buhari in February this year.
