Two old friends on a stroll – or the fastest men in the world competing at the Rio Olympics?
It was hard to tell in the men's 200-meter semifinal heat on Wednesday when Usain Bolt of Jamaica and Andre De Grasse of Canada shared a sweet smile as they crossed the finish line.
Bolt approached the last moments of the race with ease, but noticed De Grasse sneaking up on his right. Then, in what appeared to be a tender moment, the runners flashed each other toothy grins as they finished.
Bolt crossed the line in 19.78 seconds to secure first place in the heat and De Grasse followed right behind with a time of 19.80.
It was close, but Bolt – the fastest man in the world – never loses.
And as the men slowed to a jog post-sprint, Bolt gave his friend a hand gesture that has become all too familiar at these Olympic Games – the Katie Ledecky (and Michael Phelps!) finger wag.
Both Bolt and De Grasse advanced to the 200-meter final on Thursday night, along with Team U.S.A.'s LaShawn Merritt.
