Mayowa Ahmed, the young woman whose battle against Ovarian Cancer led to the now popular #SaveMayowa campaign has died.
A spokesperson for the family broke the sad news on Twitter yesterday August 21
The #saveMayowa campaign became popular as many Nigerians helped raised money via GoFundMe and Bank transfers for Mayowa to get treatment abroad. But an unwanted series of events took over after the fundraising campaign was wrongly dubbed a scam.
Weeks later, those accusations were debunked and she was eventually flown to South Africa where she died.
Mayowa’s family are in our thoughts and prayers.
