Caitlyn Jenner accuses paparazzi of causing fatal car accident, claims she was being stalked and harassed

Caitlyn Jenner is blaming the paparazzi for her involvement in a fatal car crash in February 2015.

Jenner's attorney amended an already-existing cross-complaint against Jessica Steindorff -- the driver of the Prius that was also involved in the crash -- to include a group of photographers and photo agencies.

According to court documents, the paparazzi in question, collectively referred to as "the Stalker Defendants" in the complaint, allegedly "were [stalking] Jenner, chasing Jenner and harassing Jenner throughout the day, up through the time of the incident."

"Stalker defendants and others acting in concert with them continuously, negligently and recklessly operated their vehicles tracking Jenner, speeding up to tailgate Jenner, [and] driving too close to take pictures," the documents claims.

According to the allegations in the amended complaint, "Jenner was driving her vehicle consistent with all laws and speed limits," however, due to the photographer's actions, Jenner claims she was "visually distracted," and argues that their conduct "did contribute to the cause of an accident, where seconds and split seconds mattered."

Furthermore, the cross-complaint argues that the so-called "Stalker Defendants" -- as well as Steindorff -- should be held "legally responsible for some or all of damages sought" by the occupants of the Hummer involved in the multi-vehicle collision.

On Feb. 7, 2015, Steindorff was stopped at a traffic light on the Pacific Coast Highway.Sixty nine-year-old Kim Howe, who was driving a Lexus sedan, was stopped behind Steindorff. Jenner rear-ended the Lexus, which careened into oncoming traffic and was struck by a Hummer. Howe died from her injuries at the scene of the crash.

At the time of the incident, Steindorff, 30, was reportedly driving with a suspended license. The Los Angeles County Sheriffs' investigation into the collision found that her driving did not result in or lead to the crash.

However in the complaint, Jenner's lawyers allege that Steindorff was inattentive and did not proceed when the traffic light turned green.

The investigation by the Sheriff's department determined that Jenner was traveling below the speed limit at the time of the crash, but was still driving at an unsafe speed . However, Jenner was cleared of all criminal charges.

Shortly after the accident, Jenner released a statement reading, "My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the families and loved ones and to all of those involved or injured in this terrible accident. I will continue to pray for them and I will continue to cooperate in every way possible."
