Benny Harlem and his 6-year-old daughter Jaxyn have set social media abuzz and are giving us serious hair envy with photos of their incredible, free-flowing natural hair. It has captured the interest and attention of his over 143,000 followers and major media outlets.
Benny Harlem, who is a New-York born, Los Angeles bred singer, songwriter and model has shared that he is passionate about setting an example and instilling self-love in his daughter, so she can be be proud of her heritage and her natural hair.
Part of that self-love is embracing her natural black hair, which has for centuries been the subject of scorn and unjust ridicule.
In a recent article on Omeleto he said,
“Social media had become the new nightly show so I want to put positivity on the mind of our fathers. We are the foundation behind the future.
“What my daughter knows is that if she loves herself first, love will align in her friendships, relationships, and all aspects of her life. She’s a beautiful girl who’s gonna be a pretty woman, but I teach her to love herself first. She doesn’t need to seek that in a man or from watching TV or her friends. I teach her to walk in her natural elegance, and I make it a point to show her that she’s protected daily. That way, she remains fearless.”
When asked about the secret to their lustrous hair, Harlem says it’s nothing more than a homemade shampoo with ingredients like coconuts and berries.
Well, I’m definitely off to hunt some coconuts and berries.
