Parents plead for help after their son was born with 15 fingers and 16 toes (photos)

A couple in China are asking for help after their son was born with 15 fingers and 16 toes.

The little boy is now three months old and has a congenital condition called polydactylism.

He is known as Hong Hong and has seven fingers on his right hand and eight on his left, but no thumbs.

The tot also has eight toes on each foot, with his dad Zou Chenglin explaining he and his wife were worried he might be born with extra fingers and toes.

“My wife has one extra finger and toe on each of her hands and feet, so we were worried that our child would inherit the condition,” Zoe said.

The little boy's mum also has the condition

"But after going to three big hospitals... doctors found no birth defects on our son during scans."

Hong Hong’s parents are from a village in China’s central Hunan Province.

Zou’s wife works in a factory and she and her husband have been to many different hospitals to get advice on what can be done for their son.

They have been assured that when he is between six and 12 months he can have an operation to remove his extra fingers and toes.

However, the surgery is expensive at between 100,000 and 500,000 RMB - £10,500 and £52,600.

Hong Hong's mum and dad were worried he'd be born with the condition, but were told he didn't have it after hospital scans.

The couple can’t afford it, so they are now hoping to get some help with the cost.

They have been in touch with some charities which might be able to help, and they are also hoping people might donate some money to secure the operation.

Although Hong Hong’s condition isn’t a threat to his health, there is a stigma around having too many fingers and toes.

This is why many people chose to have the extra digits removed.

An operation could help Hong Hong, but it's expensive.
