''I stand with Amber'' trends on twitter after Johnny Depp abuse claims

“#IStandWithAmber” briefly trended on Twitter on Friday night, hours after Amber Heard accused Johnny Depp of abuse.

On friday Heard was granted a temporary restraining against Depp, after claiming her estranged husband was physically and verbally abusive throughout their marriage. She specifically alleged he assaulted her last Saturday, two days before she filed for divorce. While the merits of the allegations have not yet been determined, some twitter users are being vocal about supporting Heard.

In addition to “#IStandWithAmber,” the similar hashtags “#StandWithAmber” and “ImWithAmber” are being used in tweets condemning domestic violence. A man using the handle @meatkitten tweeted, “#istandwithamber I am a survivor of domestic abuse (yes it happens to boys too) and victim blaming can go die in a fire with Depp’s career.” @IsntDaveOne wrote, “#IStandWithAmber #ImWithAmber end domestic violence on women!” and shared a phone number for a help line.

“Domestic abuse is never okay, just because the abuser is famous shouldn’t make a difference #IStandWithAmber,” @kayleighhislop_posted. @chrissysnickerz tweeted, “Abuse is a serious matter. Don’t call someone a liar, gold-digger, or attention seeker when they’re brave enough to speak up. #ImWithAmber.” And @thatmuhajababe said, “We shame victims/survivors of domestic violence for not speaking out sooner, and then we accuse them of lying when they do. #StandWithAmber.”

Depp has not been charged with a crime, and the LAPD said there was no evidence of domestic violence injuries when they met with Heard. And in a court filing, the actor’s attorney suggested Heard made the allegations in hopes of getting a “premature” financial settlement.
