Man commits suicide in Thailand, suicide note says cancer treatments, heart disease took a toll on him

The body of an elderly American man was found on Tuesday morning, April 26 in the gardens of his Pattaya, Thailand condo with a gunshot wound to his chest.

According to S.T Bangkok News, police was called to the Spanish Condo, located close to Sukhumvit Road in central Pattaya, at around 10.30am and found the body of 75-year-old John Swanson propped against a garden wall.
A handgun and two shells were found on the ground close to the body and a sealed envelope that contained a suicide note taped to the wall behind him.

Mr Swanson’s girlfriend of 12 years told investigators he’d been suffering from various illnesses including cancer and heart disease, and had become very depressed in recent months.

She said the deceased went outside for a walk just after 5am and she didn’t see him again until he was found dead.

The police believe Mr Swanson's death does not need investigation after reading the letter in which he explains the reasons for taking his own life, and taking a statement from his girlfriend.

The body will be sent for autopsy before being returned to his girlfriend for his requested cremation.
