9-year-old boy sets up Lemonade stand to pay for his own adoption

A nine-year-old American boy has opened a lemonade stall to help pay for his own adoption. 

Tristan Jacobson is selling the drinks for $1 a time outside his home in Springfield Missouri, while his guardians have also held jumble sales to raise money towards legal fees.


 Between them they have made $7,100 (£5000) and have also raised thousands more on YouCaring, a crowdfunding website.

Ms Davis wrote on the site: “Tristan is already our son, in our hearts. But we want to make it official. He wants to have our last name.

“Actually he has decided he wants to change his first name. And we are letting him.  He has picked out the name of Quill Tristan Davis. He is so excited; he tries to tell his teachers to call him that now. He’s such an awesome kid.”

She described how Tristan was the son of her ex-husband and a 15-year-old girl.

He came to live with the Davises after his mother left him at a shelter four years ago after he life descended into drug addiction and prostitution.

Tristan described his excitement at the prospect of adoption.

"She will be my parent," he told the Springfield News-Leader, pointing to Mrs Davis. "I'm happy because I have a new mum who loves me."

The family needed only $5,000 for fees and say the additional money will be put towards Tristan's education.


"There's not enough words to say 'thank you' to everyone who has shown support or given us donations," Mrs Davis told the News-Leader.


"Everyone has made this possible. We will make sure this child will forever be ours."
