Katy Perry makes history as the first person to hit 100 million followers on Twitter

Singer Katy Perry has bagged the title of the most following on Twitter after racking up a meaty 100 million followers on the social media site. The 32-year-old joined the social platform in 2009 and amassed 50m followers by 2012, and five years later she’s doubled that number. 

The guys at Twitter HQ also congratulated the Roar singer on her achievement with a compilation of some of her best tweets from over the years and wrote: ‘Today we #witness history. Congratulations to @katyperry, the first to reach 100 million followers! #LoveKaty.’

The second most-followed on Twitter is Justin Bieber, who currently boasts 96.7 million followers, and right behind them are Barack Obama (90.8million), Taylor Swift (85.1 million) and Rihanna (74.1 million).
