11 police officers shot, 4 killed by 2 snipers after peaceful Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas

Up to 11 police officers have been shot and four killed at a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas on Thursday.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown confirmed at a press conference that two snipers shot at 11 police officers from elevated positions. Four are dead, two are in surgery, and three in critical condition. The protest had been described as "peaceful" by officers before the snipers began shooting.

"There are two Dallas officers deceased and one dart officer deceased. There were 10 shot and we've had an additional officer to make the total to 11 officers injured," Brown said at the press conference. A tweet from the Dallas Police Department later confirmed that a fourth officer had been killed.

An intensive search for suspects is currently underway and Brown asked that any citizen with information regarding the shootings call 214-671-3482.

The shootings reportedly occurred during a rally and march that showed solidarity for communities affected by the officer-involved shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.

Police Chief David Brown said at a press conference late Thursday: "We also believe that the suspects have threatened to plant a bomb in the downtown area. We have reached out to our federal law-enforcement partners both the FBI and the ATF to help us search for the suspects or maybe more and to do a very thorough search of the area where we believe there might be a bomb planted."

Dallas Police Sr. Corporal Debra Webb said in an early statement to the Associated Press that police were sorting through information at what was "clearly still an active scene."

Hundreds of people reportedly gathered at Dallas' Belo Garden Park, marching to the Old Red Courthouse at around 9 p.m before shots were fired.

It is unclear if any civilians were hurt in the shooting.
