Hundreds donate to fund for mother killed saving her child

Well-wishers have raised more than £20,000 to help bring up a baby whose mother was killed while saving her from an oncoming truck.

Lauren Heath, in her 20s, was struck by an HGV moments after pushing her child's pram clear of the vehicle in Reading, Berkshire earlier in April.

Her fiance Kenny Hensley has spoken of his gratitude to all those who have donated to a fundraising page set up in Ms Heath's memory.

He said some of the money would be used to pay for a "hero's" funeral and the rest would secure the future of their baby girl Millie.
The page's founder said she knew Ms Heath through a mothers' group and described her as a "doting" mother who had been eagerly preparing for her daughter's first birthday.

More than 1,500 people have donated to the page, which will use some of the funds to pay for Ms Heath's funeral and put the rest into a trust fund for her daughter.

One donor wrote on the gofundme site: "Heart-breaking. I don't know you but I felt compelled to donate a small amount to help Millie's future. If nothing else, to let her know that people cared when she grows up."
